'Wily old' Bielsa may have just ended Casilla's Leeds United career - Campbell

Marcelo Bielsa is a “wily old character” and could just have ended Kiko Casilla’s Leeds United career.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the one-time Spain international was axed from the matchday squad on Monday.

He later posted a cryptic Instagram message to his 1.9million followers that suggested his United days could soon be over.

Casilla was a mainstay for Leeds between the sticks last season but has featured just once in the league since the West Yorkshire side won promotion.

The emergence of 21-year-old French shot-stopper Illan Meslier has cast doubt on his Leeds future.

But Campbell insists that Bielsa is such an unpredictable character it’s difficult to second guess the Spaniard’s future.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “You just don’t know what’s going through the manager’s mind. Is he freshening things up? Is he doing it to get a response from the goalkeeper?

“You could say the writing’s on the wall, it’s all over for Casilla, and then he could go and play the next game.

“You just never know with Bielsa, he’s a wily old character.”

Casilla signed for Leeds six months into the Bielsa regime in January 2019 and he has gone on to make 60 appearances for the club.

The 19-year-old Italian goalkeeper Elia Caprile replaced Casilla on the bench for Monday’s defeat.

In other news, top pundit and Leeds United fans Noel Whelan has tipped three experienced players to leave Elland Road along with Casilla in the summer.
