'It's in the bag' - Exclusive: Pundit in awe of what he's seen of Leeds stars ahead of restart

Darren Bent believes that the fitness levels at Leeds United will play a crucial role in helping secure promotion from the Championship this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Aston Villa and England striker has been left raving over what he has seen from Marcelo Bielsa’s men this season.

The Whites, who have nine games left to play, will resume their season with a visit to Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon.

Bent has lauded the players’ work rate and fitness levels and believes there will come a time over the coming weeks where they will need to dig deep to help seal promotion.

Bent told Football Insider: “Leeds to me look like a well-oiled machine, they all look like they’re ripped, great condition, look like they can run all day and that’s what’s going to get them over the line.

“I guarantee you at some point between now and the end of the season there’s going to come a point where they’re not playing well and that’s where that fitness and that grind and ethic are going to come out.

“I think Leeds have got it in the bag to do that this season. For example, Patrick Bamford looks quite durable this season, he seems to have got his fitness behind him. In previous seasons he’s had little niggles here and there, it interrupted his progress but I think this season he’s figured it out.”

Leeds won their last five games without conceding a single goal before the suspension of the Championship season.

They currently sit one point clear at the top of the league, with third-placed Fulham a further six points behind West Brom.

In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED the Whites are in advanced talks with a defender.
