Kieran Maguire hails Leeds chief after swipe at Premier League owner’s ‘hostage’ footage

Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear speaks the “language of the people” – a “refreshing” change from the directors of many Premier League clubs.

That is according to finance guru and Football Insider columnist Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively about Kinnear’s sardonic comments regarding Liverpool owner John Henry.

Writing in his programme notes ahead of Leeds’ clash with Spurs last Saturday, Kinnear compared Henry’s recent Super League apology to a “hostage video.”

“The footballing world has not been fooled by the hollow expressions of contrition,” the Leeds exec went on to say.

Maguire lauded Kinnear for his dry wit, claiming it reflected the language of ordinary Leeds fans.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “It’s refreshing. It shows that Kinnear does have a connection with the fans.

“He speaks the language of the fanbase. Therefore, I think that’s beneficial because communication between the board and fans has not been great at a lot of clubs.

“Why is there this present hostility at Man United, Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle etc?

“It’s due to a breakdown in dialogue. Communication is a two-way thing. If you are communicating then use the language of the people who you are talking to.”

Leeds are enjoying an excellent campaign and are 10th in the table with just three matches remaining.

Elland Road fans will see their team in action in the flesh for the first time in 15 months when Leeds face West Brom on the final day of the season.
