Leeds tipped to agree a new Bamford deal by 31 August after Tottenham twist - pundit
Leeds United will want to reward Patrick Bamford with a new contract before deadline day in order to “keep the wolves from the door.”
That is the view of ex-Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Leeds’ 27-year-old goalscorer.
The Telegraph reported on 15 August that Leeds want to tie Bamford down to a new deal to fend off interest from Tottenham.
But a subsequent report from the Mirror on 16 August claims that Bamford has intimated that he is happy to remain at Leeds.
Bamford’s current deal runs until 2023 after he signed a one-year extension in secret last summer, as per the Athletic in May,
But Kenny claims that Leeds may offer the striker another new deal in order to shore up their star man’s long-term future at the club.

“I’m sure they’ll want to get it done before the window shuts,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“Tying your best players down is like making a new signing. The sooner they get it done the better, really.
“If Tottenham are interested and he is up for staying, why would you not tie him down and reward him for what he’s done?
“It keeps the wolves from the door. If he has a bigger contract then he might command more money on the transfer a couple of years down the line.“
Bamford finished 2020-21 as Leeds’ top scorer and creator with 17 goals and eight assists.
He played 77 minutes last Saturday as Leeds were smashed 5-1 by rivals Man United at Old Trafford.
