Leeds United news: Pundit issues 'dressing room' reveal after Luke Ayling controversy

Alan Hutton has insisted Luke Ayling let down the rest of the Leeds United dressing room after being sent off against Arsenal on Sunday.

The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he “fears for” the Whites following the 2-1 defeat in north London.

As seen in footage relayed by Sky Sports (8 May) Ayling received a straight red for a two-footed tackle on Gabriel Martinelli in the first half of Sunday’s game.

He will now sit out the rest of Leeds’ season through suspension.

Hutton claimed Ayling would be full of regret after his “mistake”.

“You could see it coming a mile away, what he was doing,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“You just don’t need it. I’ve been in dressing rooms before where it’s been difficult games and the manager’s saying: ‘Keep 11 men on the park. We have to if we want to get anything.’

“They’re on a difficult run. Where they are in the league, they need to pick up points. Going a man down away from home doesn’t help anybody. Ayling will know he made a mistake. He’ll be sitting there, he’ll know what’s happened and how he’s affected the game.

“He’ll want to make up for that mistake, but it doesn’t change what’s happened. It’s another defeat. They’ve got another big game against Chelsea.

“I really fear for them. Burnley, I know they got beat by Villa but I think they have what it takes. Everton with a great result, it just piles of pressure on Leeds. I think they’re gonna struggle.”

Leeds face Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford in their final three games.

They sit 18th in the table, one place behind Burnley on goal difference alone.
