Pundit shares 'huge' verdict on Raphinha quitting Leeds in what 'would be massive blow'

Leeds United will struggle to keep hold of Raphinha this summer if a big club comes knocking – like Real Madrid.

That is according to ex-Premier League goalscorer Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the in-demand 24-year-old winger.

This site revealed in February that Liverpool are monitoring Raphinha after being “blown away” by his performances in his maiden season in English football.

Premier League champions Man City are also interested, according to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte on Monday.

Legendary manager Ancelotti left Everton for Real Madrid earlier this week, sending shockwaves around Goodison Park.

Football Insider first reported that the Toffees feared losing the 61-year-old to Los Blancos on 19 May.

And Phillips claims that his departure proves that when a top-table team has you in the crosshairs, it is difficult to say no.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “It would be a massive blow. Raphinha’s been their best player and a standout player in the Premier League.

“Naturally, any club that loses a player of that quality will take a huge hit. It’s not an ideal start ahead of next season if he isn’t there, but that’s football.

“Leeds have got to try and convince him to stay, but that’s going to be tough if Liverpool come knocking.

“Look at Ancelotti going to Real Madrid. When these big clubs come knocking, it’s hard to turn them down because you might not get that opportunity again.

“So it would be a blow but they do have a habit of unearthing these players who you don’t know a lot about but who turn into fantastic footballers.

“Let’s hope he does start at Leeds next season.”
