Noel Whelan delivers instant verdict on Leeds United sealing Firpo deal
Noel Whelan has claimed Leeds United are set to pull off a “massive coup” by signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the 24-year-old looks a “very exciting” addition.
As revealed by Football Insider, Firpo is jetting into England today (3rd July) to undergo a medical and complete his move from Barcelona.
Leeds are set to pay an initial £12.8million, rising to £15.5million including add-ons, for the left-back.
He will become United’s third summer signing after the captures of attackers Amari Miller and Jack Harrison.
Whelan insisted Leeds had been crying out for a natural left-back ahead of the summer.

He admitted he was buzzing over Firpo’s arrival.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “When you look at him, he’s got all the credentials that Leeds United really need.
“I’ve looked everywhere on the YouTube videos. He looks like an athlete in himself. We know he’s coming from a good background at Barcelona.
“They play the right way, the way that Marcelo Bielsa likes. He’s definitely got the attributes and credentials to be at Leeds and fit straight in.
“He can’t be a bad player to have been playing second fiddle to Jordi Alba all this time. He’ll have learned a lot from a very experienced player.
“It’s very exciting we could be nearing getting that natural left-sided full-back we need.
“I think getting somebody with that kind of credential, from that kind of background, would be a massive coup for Leeds.”
Firpo played 18 times for Barcelona last season.
He has made a total of 41 first-team appearances for the Catalan giants.
In other news, Leeds United have agreed the terms of a £20million-plus new deal.
