Leeds are taking major gamble after confirmed Bamford news – pundit
Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested Leeds United have “rushed” into handing Patrick Bamford a new contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Bamford may suffer from “second season syndrome” this term.
Leeds confirmed last week (19 August) that the 27-year-old had penned a new five-year deal with the club.
The new deal could see the Englishman stay at Elland Road until he is 32.
His previous contract was set to expire next year.
Bamford joins Illan Meslier, Stuart Dallas and Tyler Roberts in signing new contracts with Leeds this summer.
The Englishman was one of the club’s standout performers last term as he fired in 17 goals in 37 Premier League games.
But Agbonlahor has warned he may not be able to find the same form this season.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think it’s a bit of a rush to give him that deal, to be honest.
“He’s had one really good season but you want to see if he has second season syndrome himself or if he can do it again this season. You can decide on the contract maybe halfway through this season.
“Marcelo Bielsa might see stuff that we don’t see. Maybe they want to tie him up because other clubs are after him.
“If it was me, I’d probably wait and see how he does this season.”

Harry Kane was the only Englishman to score more Premier League goals than Bamford last season.
The Leeds star came close to earning a first call up to Gareth Southgate’s squad but remains uncapped.
In other news, a senior midfielder has been tipped to quit Leeds United after latest reveal.
