Leeds tipped for major 'boost' v Everton after Phillips reveal - Whelan
Noel Whelan has tipped Kalvin Phillips to return to the Leeds United starting XI against Everton.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old would still be match fit after playing in every game for England at the Euros.
As quoted by BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope (August 19th), Marcelo Bielsa confirmed Phillips is “getting closer” to a starting role after missing out versus Manchester United.
The midfielder was an unused substitute for the 5-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Bielsa confirmed he did not think it necessary for Phillips to play for the under-23s on Monday either.
As such, Whelan predicted the homegrown hero would be back in the starting line-up against the Toffees.

“Kalvin’s a natural fit guy anyway,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He played the majority of the games in the Euros. He’s had a short amount of time to recover and have that holiday and break that these players need.
“So that level of fitness will still be there, he won’t have just been sitting on the beach. He’ll still be doing a little bit of light training.
“I expect him to be back tomorrow, I really do. I think the fans would love it, to see him.
“It gives you that boost that you need knowing that Kalvin’s in the side. He’s such an integral part to how we play.”
Robin Koch stepped into the defensive midfield role against Manchester United in Phillips‘ absence.
The England international played 31 times across all competitions for Leeds last season.
