Leeds United working on ‘£50m’ deal ‘from what I’m hearing’ – expert
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed Leeds United are exploring a “£40-50million” upgrade at Elland Road.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the club will look at a “major upgrade or new stadium” once they are established in the Premier League.
Leeds have recently confirmed that Elland Road has been transferred back to the club after it was sold in 2004 following financial issues.
The Whites have been exploring a potential upgrade at their famous stadium in recent years following investment from 49ers Enterprises.
Elland Road, which was built in 1897 and last cosmetically upgraded in 2017, holds 37,792 spectators at full capacity.
Leeds plotting ‘£40-50m’ initial Elland Road development, says Wyness
Wyness insisted the famous stadium is “past its sell-by date and needs some work”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m sure the architects will have given the club a menu.
“You could add £100million in renovations, or you could even build a new stadium at Elland Road.
“From what I’m hearing, we’re looking at around £40-50million to try and improve what they have right now.
“That would be enough to improve the facility they have right now and get it up to scratch.
“Then once they’re in the Premier League and established, they’ll be looking at a major upgrade or even a new stadium.

“Elland Road is in a great position, it’s got great history – but it’s past its sell-by date and it needs some work.
“But it’s good news to see it back on the club’s asset sheet.”
