Reliable journalist: Leeds want three January signings, Premier League ace on radar

By Will Butcher

Leeds are desperate to bring in cover for three new positions, according to a reliable journalist.

The Yorkshire giants are keen to bring in West Ham’s Ashley Fletcher, while manager Garry Monk is looking to sign a young centre-back and a new winger to provide cover.

Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay revealed on his personal Twitter account on Friday morning that Leeds want former Manchester United ace Fletcher as well as two other players this month.

With the former Swansea boss looking to mastermind a promotion push in the second half of the season at Elland Road, additions could be made to bolster his squad.

Bringing in a striker has been a priority for the Championship outfit this season, after Hay revealed that Leeds would jump at the chance if West ham were willing to sell.

However, it seems that the Hammers will only sell their summer signing if they can bring a striker to east London first as Fletcher continues to provide cover for Andy Carroll.

With Monk possessing just two recognised wingers in Hadi Sacko and Stuart Dallas,  the 37-year-old manager has opted to use Souleymane Doukara out wide in recent matches.

Similarly, Leeds possess just three central defenders in Kyle Bartley, Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson and cover could be brought in as injuries are likely to crop up towards the end of the season.

In other Leeds news, this senior figure has a clause in his contract that will allow him to extend his stay for a further 12 months.
