Leon Osman has claimed defender Phil Jagielka will be a “massive miss” for Everton in Monday evening’s Merseyside derby.
The Toffees are set to welcome local rivals Liverpool to Goodison Park in the crucial Premier League fixture.
However, Jagielka will miss the clash after receiving a red card in Tuesday evening’s 2-1 victory against Arsenal.
The defender was booked within the first 20 minutes before receiving his second booking in second half stoppage time, resulting in a one-match ban.
Now former Toffees midfield ace Osman has identified Jagielka as a massive loss for the clash.
“In my opinion yes, absolutely,” started Osman on TalkSport when asked if Jagielka would be missed.
“He’s been getting a little bit of criticism this season about his performances, but when you’ve got a guy who’s your captain, who’s as influential as he is, for me he’s going to be a massive miss.”
Jagielka has some history in the derby, most notably a cracking long range strike to earn his side a point at Anfield in 2014 in the 1-1 draw.
He will be disappointed that he will now have to miss one of his club’s biggest fixtures of the campaign after nine years with Everton.
The Toffees will be out for revenge after suffering a 4-0 defeat when the sides last met in April.
Goals from Divock Origi, Mamadou Sakho, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho brought down the misery on Roberto Martinez’ Everton side.
