Levy seals record-breaking Tottenham deal after talks finalised – report
By Alex Stevens
Tottenham have finalised a club-record kit deal with US sportswear giants Nike, according to a report.
Football site ESPN FC claim Spurs have sealed an agreement with Nike worth £150million that will come into effect from the start of next season.
It is said that the deal, clinched by chairman Daniel Levy, will replace the current five-year contract with Under Armour that is worth a total of £50million and expires at the end of the season.
ESPN FC report that the lucrative new package is worth three times the old agreement and will comfortably smash the Tottenham record.
It is not stated how long the deal will run for, although it says it will be comparable with Arsenal’s £30million-a-year contract with Puma.
Both kit agreements pale in comparison with those of Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Premier League leaders have a 15-year contract with Nike that is worth £60million annually, which is still some way short of United’s world record deal worth £75million-a-year with Adidas.
Tottenham’s new partnership with Nike will increase speculation that the company could have a say in a naming-rights deal for the club’s new stadium.
Spurs are set to move into their new ground, which will be adjacent to White Hart Lane, at the start of the 2018-19 season.
ESPN report that Levy has said the club are in talks with potential naming rights partners.
