Levy shares how long he will remain in charge at Tottenham

Daniel Levy has revealed that he will be pulling the strings at Tottenham for a long time to come.

Spurs’s Bahamas-based owner Joe Lewis bought the club through investment vehicle ENIC International Ltd in 2001 and appointed Levy to run the Premier League outfit.

The 55-year-old is chairman by name but is also de facto chief executive and negotiates all the player transfers and contracts while also overseeing the club’s move to their new stadium.

Tottenham are preparing for their final home match at White Hart Lane against Manchester United on Sunday and will spend one season at Wembley before returning to the area to occupy their 61,559-seat stadium.

Levy is convinced that the new home will take Spurs to a new level financially and also raise the profile of the club at a time when they have their best team in a generation.

But there remains much to do for Levy as the focus turns decisively to the future as soon as the fans have waved goodbye to the 118-year home this weekend.

“It has been an immense journey and one that is far from over,” Levy told the Evening Standard of his own situation. “Right now, it’s a great time to be a Spurs fan.

“I remember coming here with my uncle more than 50 years ago to watch my first game against QPR, wearing a huge rosette.

“It is hard to pick out one single memory as a favourite, as there have been so many. I’m always clear that we are merely the custodians of the club — it was here long before any of us and will be here long after us all.

“It is simply our turn to look after it, grow it and support it.”

Spurs are going through a transformative spell following nearly two decades in the shadows of bitter rivals Arsenal.

They set to go one better than last season and finish second in the Premier League after last week’s defeat to West Ham ensured that Chelsea will retain the title.
