Lewie Coyle has described Leeds’ performance against Derby as “unbelievable” as his side climbed to third in the Championship.

Garry Monk’s high-flying outfit secured all three points on Friday night as top scorer Chris Wood rose highest to head home the only goal of the game in the 45th minute.

Coyle, who played the full 90 minutes on the right side of defence, heaped praise on the Elland Road faithful on his personal Instagram account after the 1-0 win.

Academy product Coyle came into the side to solve Leeds’ defensive crisis, after Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper were both ruled out to face Steve McClaren’s Rams.

Coyle, 21, started on the right side of defence which allowed former Arsenal youth player Luke Ayling to partner Kyle Bartley at centre-back.

The narrow win against Derby sees Leeds sit in third position in the Championship table, leapfrogging Reading and Huddersfield into the highest play-off place.

Leeds will now be hoping Newcastle and Brighton drop points on Saturday, as they occupy the automatic promotion places with Rafa Benitez’s Toon now just four points clear in second.

Since his debut in December 2015 against Nottingham Forest, Leeds’ number 31 has gone on to make a total of 20 league and cup appearances for the Yorkshire giants.

In other Leeds news, this Massimo Cellino favourite has agreed a move with a Serie A side.
