Liam Delap: Newcastle fans would love ‘Alan Shearer-type’ striker – Keith Wyness
Liam Delap could have a choice between Newcastle United and Everton in the summer transfer window, according to Keith Wyness.
The former Everton chief executive, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has heard of interest from the Merseyside club and their Premier League rivals Newcastle.
Delap has only scored one Premier League goal since joining Chelsea last summer, and could be available to leave Stamford Bridge after just one season.
A new number nine is a key target for both Everton and Newcastle ahead of next season, and Delap proved his Premier League pedigree with 12 goals for Ipswich in the 2024-25 campaign.
Newcastle could lose Nick Woltemade and Anthony Gordon in the summer, whilst Everton need greater firepower to upgrade on their current options.

Wyness – who served as chief executive at Everton between 2004 and 2009 – believes Delap would suit Newcastle better than the Toffees.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Eddie Howe would like to bring Delap to St James’ Park.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’m hearing Delap interest certainly at Everton level and also Newcastle level.
“He’s much more of a Newcastle type striker. He’s more of a Malcolm Macdonald type striker as well, an Alan Shearer type. And I think that’s what the fans would like.
“I think Eddie Howe would like to play to that sort of striker as well. And I think David Moyes would like another striker as well, given the quality of service that strikers are going to get.”
Newcastle concerned by Yoane Wissa form
Newcastle and Howe have been left unimpressed by Yoane Wissa’s debut season at the club, according to former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown talking exclusively to Football Insider.
Wissa has had an injury-hit season and has not replaced the void left by Alexander Isak when he departed to join Liverpool.
The 29-year-old may have been a panic buy, and Howe will be expecting more from the striker if he remains at the club next season.
