‘Liam Rosenior next in line as Chelsea manager after Enzo Maresca sack’

Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital may already be lining up a replacement for Enzo Maresca as Chelsea supporters’ frustrations grow at Stamford Bridge, after a firm move on Liam Rosenior.

Despite sitting fifth in the Premier League table, pushing to secure Champions League qualification, and the team in a Europa Conference League semi-final, Chelsea fans are growing tired of Maresca’s tactics.

A shock second-leg defeat to Legia Warsaw, albeit still advancing in the Europa Conference League on aggregate, felt like a significant blow to the Italian’s chances of staying in charge, especially given how easily the Blues change managers.

It has already been suggested that Maresca has been allowed more leeway than Mauricio Pochettino, but with a 58 per-cent win rate during his time at Stamford Bridge some might argue this is unfair.

Enzo Maresca remains under pressure at Chelsea

So far the Stamford Bridge hierarchy appear to have been remarkably satisfied with the former Leicester boss, but whether that survives potentially missing out on Champions League qualification remains to be seen, and it is quite clear how increasingly frustrated the fans are becoming.

Ex-Man United and Blackburn chief scout has told Football Insider the Chelsea owners are now asking questions of Maresca amid growing supporter pressure.

With a place at Europe’s top table next term still on the cards before the end of the campaign, it is more Maresca’s tactics on the pitch that have come into question after arriving from now-relegated Leicester City.

Maresca’s time at Chelsea has not been as bad as many supporters think.

Having four permanent managers in the last three years, however, would suggest that Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, and the rest of the hierarchy are ready to make cut-throat decisions despite the manager’s overall performance.

If the decision is made to part ways with Maresca this summer, or even at some point next season, it appears that Rosenior could be the one trusted with taking Chelsea forward.

BlueCo make firm Liam Rosenior move

Many will remember Rosenior from his incredible fallout with the Hull City hierarchy, but the 40-year-old is now impressing over in Ligue 1 with Strasbourg, a team also owned by BlueCo.

Strasbourg are currently seventh in the league table, fighting for European qualification, with three matches remaining against Paris Saint-Germain, Angers, and Le Havre.

The loan signings of Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic have worked wonders for both parties, and that could also be the case when it comes to the manager if Boehly feels ready for a change.

It has now been confirmed that Rosenior has signed a new deal with the French club until the summer of 2028, being rewarded for his work by the BlueCo consortium, led partly by Boehly.

According to Football London (7 April), Southampton had been keen on appointing him as Ivan Juric’s successor, but BlueCo are determined to keep hold of him, albeit over in France rather than the Premier League.

He has won 17 of his 34 games in charge, and while his record is not as impressive as Maresca’s, the Chelsea squad is far superior, and the funding has more ability to move the needle at Stamford Bridge.

The former Derby County boss has made quite the splash over in France, and if Boehly’s recent actions are anything to go by, it might not be long until the manager is back in England again.
