Life after Wood but this is needed – fast: Three things we learned from Leeds win v Sunderland

2. Samuel Saiz is a genuine star

We were excited about Saiz’ debut performance against Port Vale, when he scored a hat-trick to announce himself to the Elland Road faithful. But of course there were caveats… He was up against an average League 2 side and the Championship is a step up. The good news is that the pint-sized attacker has made that step up look effortless. He was brilliant again against Sunderland on Saturday, breaking the deadlock with a smart finish in the 21st minute, before securing all three points with a fabulous cross to set up Stuart Dallas for the second. He has finesse and an eye for goal that could prove invaluable in the next nine months. If Christiansen can use the £15million from Wood to get a genuine 20-goal-a-season striker, Leeds will be in a much stronger position to push for promotion this season. And the good news is that the club won’t be so reliant on their striker for goals.
