Lionel Messi cited as Mohamed Salah told he will be ‘welcome with open arms’ at MLS club

Mohamed Salah is unlikely to join either San Diego or Chicago Fire in the MLS in January despite their interest with both clubs set to be priced out of a move.

Salah‘s future at Liverpool has been in serious doubt over the last week after he spoke candidly to the press after their 3-3 draw at Leeds.

The Reds legend had been left on the bench by Arne Slot at Elland Road, and shockingly admitted following the game that he felt the club had thrown him “under the bus” and his relationship with the manager had broken down.

He was left at home for their trip to Italy to face Inter Milan in midweek, with reports emerging that he could soon leave the club after eight successful, trophy-laden years.

Salah is back in the squad as Liverpool face Brighton at Anfield on Saturday (13 December), and a new update has emerged on where he could end up in January if a departure is agreed upon.

San Diego and Chicago to be priced out of £100m Salah approach

MLS chief commissioner Don Garber encouraged Salah to move to the States following his recent saga, saying: “He should reach out to Leo [Messi] and reach out to Thomas Muller and see how happy they’ve been and how much they’ve embraced being in MLS. We’d welcome him with open arms.”

A move looks unlikely anytime soon despite recent links to San Diego and Chicago Fire, however, with the Daily Mail reporting that both sides believe the financial package involved to sign the 33-year-old will most likely price them out.

Egyptian-owned San Diego and Chicago have each weighed up whether to push for a “marquee” signing ahead of the upcoming World Cup, but Salah is also not believed to be keen on relocating to the USA yet.

Saudi Arabian clubs are confident of landing Salah if he wants to leave Liverpool, and the report also states that they think they will need to pay close towards £100million to do so.

Salah is also wanted in Saudi Arabia in January

He may be a club legend at Liverpool, but Salah’s latest situation has divided their fans over whether he was right to be so public with his grievances or should have kept the problems in-house.

The 33-year-old looks set to feature against Brighton, but Reds supporters may have seen the last of him in a red shirt as he jets off to Morocco next week.

Saudi Pro League clubs have wanted Salah for a long time, but he chose to sign a new Liverpool contract towards the end of last season, rather than make the move to the Middle East.

This new bombshell means his future is up in the air right now, and Football Insider have revealed that Al-Hilal are the club leading the race for Salah as they await a concrete decision on what happens next.
