Cody Gakpo reacts to Mohamed Salah’s behind-scenes Liverpool post after PSG win

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah shared an image of the Reds’ dressing room after a crucial win against PSG.

The Reds had substitute Harvey Elliott, and a magnificent performance from Alisson, to thank for a 1-0 win over PSG in the Champions League (5 March).

Ibrahima Konate was fortunate to avoid being sent off, despite a “clear and obvious” foul from the French defender.

The former RB Leipzig man was not the only defender to struggle, after a shocking mistake from Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.

Andy Robertson’s time with Liverpool may be over, as the Scottish defender was similarly poor against the Parisians.

Mohamed Salah all smiles in photo with match-winner Harvey Elliott

The ritual of sharing a selfie with Liverpool’s goal-scorers continued, as Salah shared a photo on his Instagram after the match, posing with Elliott.

Dutch forward Cody Gakpo missed out on featuring against the French table-toppers, but took the time to show support for his teammates by liking the post.

Salah has been in unbelievable form for the Reds this season, and is in contention to win the Balon d’Or.

If the former Chelsea man does claim football’s most prestigious individual award, he would become only the second African winner ever, after Liberia’s George Weah claimed the trophy in 1995.

Harvey Elliott set for Liverpool stay despite exit rumours

Football Insider Verdict

Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2019, but has failed to truly establish himself as a first-team regular in his six years at the club.

Some fantastic form for Blackburn whilst on loan at the Championship club in the 2020/21 season suggested the England U21 international may get a chance to feature more regularly, but since then the winger has been limited mainly to appearances off the bench.

Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively that Elliott was unhappy at Liverpool and wanted to leave.

Tim Sherwood also thought Elliott would want to leave the club, having been an unused substitute against Newcastle in a 2-0 win (26 February).

The 21-year-old had wanted assurances from manager Arne Slot over his playing time, and role within the Reds’ team, but his last-gasp winner in the Parc des Princes may force the Dutch boss to use his youngster more often.
