Liverpool agree double deal – they both arrive on 1st June
Liverpool have agreed deals with Julian Ward and Pedro Marques as they continue to restructure their senior management team, sources have told Football Insider.
Ward, 42, will return as the technical director of owners Fenway Sports Group in a shock move just 18 months after leaving his role as the sporting director at Anfield.
Meanwhile, Marques, 41, has been poached from Benfica and will be named the director of football development.
Both behind-the-scenes appointments are set to be confirmed and will officially start on 1 June.
Liverpool hire Julian Ward and Pedro Marques at Anfield
Ward had initially stepped down from his role at Anfield to take a break from football but was convinced to return by CEO Michael Edwards.
He joined the club from Manchester City in 2012 before working his way up the ranks and becoming the sporting director when Edwards stepped down in 2022 – with both men now returning.
Marques was highly regarded at Benfica, having previously worked for Man City and the City Football Group as well as Sporting CP.

These appointments come alongside Richard Hughes, who arrives from Bournemouth as the sporting director, and David Woodfine who will assist Hughes.
The restructuring at the club takes place as they prepare for the post-Jurgen Klopp era, with Football Insider revealing that Arne Slot will take over as the new manager.
In other news, Man United fans were stunned by what Wayne Rooney said on Sky Sports.
