‘Liverpool are planting stories about signing Alexander Isak’
Liverpool are one of several top clubs interested in signing Newcastle United star striker Alexander Isak this summer.
The Sweden international has scored 23 goals in 33 appearances during this campaign, having registered 25 strikes in 40 outings last season.
Football Insider revealed on 16 February Isak is seen as the “perfect” signing by Liverpool manager Arne Slot and the recruitment team at Anfield.
The 25-year-old got on the scoresheet in Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on 16 March.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed Liverpool have been “planting stories” about signing Isak this summer.
Newcastle are set to offer Isak a record-breaking contract as they look to tie down his long-term future, with his current deal set to expire in 2028.
The striker made the move to St James’ Park for a club-record £63million fee from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Arsenal in pole position to agree Alexander Isak deal
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Arsenal are the favourites to sign Isak if he were to leave Newcastle this summer.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It does seem there’s been a lot of movement in my area around here.
“Liverpool have been very active, planting stories about how Isak could be coming to Liverpool and it’s the one place he wants to come.
“We know that Arsenal have been very interested as well.
“I actually personally think he’s going to stay at Newcastle. I think that the PIF will actually resolve a lot of the financial headroom at Newcastle.
“Obviously, it would be helped if Newcastle can get into that top five and get a Champions League spot.
“But I think that Isak would actually prefer to stay there and I think it may well happen, so I don’t think there will be a move.
“But if he is going to go somewhere, I think it may be Arsenal that would be the favourite.
“Liverpool are making a lot of noise that they want to be the right choice, but I just don’t see that right now.”

Liverpool delay Diogo Jota contract talks
Football Insider revealed on 20 March Liverpool are delaying Diogo Jota’s contract talks after he’s largely failed to impress this season.
The Portugal international’s current deal expires in 2027, but there is a growing feeling he could be allowed to leave Anfield this summer rather than agree a new deal.
Arsenal are among the clubs interested in Jota, while he is also a top target for Saudi Pro League sides.
The 28-year-old has registered eight goals and three assists in 29 appearances this season, with Liverpool currently sitting 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
