Liverpool’s Divock Origi has revealed that he wants to get up to the same level as Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
Despite the fierce rivalry at club level between their clubs, the duo are currently on international duty together with Belgium.
The Everton star is currently leading the Premier League goalscoring charts this season after finding the net on 21 occasions.
Although Origi doesn’t believe he is falling behind Lukaku in terms of his progress, he does want to emulate his international teammate’s success.
“I do not feel this [that the gap is growing],” said the 21-year-old, as quoted by Het Nieuwsblad.
“I know what I can do. I play at a top club in Liverpool.
“Romelu is indeed doing well, because he works very hard and is focused on the right things. I want the same progression as Romelu and I’m working for it.”
Origi has only started seven league games for the Reds this season but has managed to score five goals and bag four assists.
However the former Lille attacker hasn’t found the back of the net since scoring in four consecutive games in December.
Belgium face Greece in a 2018 World Cup qualifier this week before an international friendly against Russia.
Lukaku has been in hot form for the Red Devils since making his senior international debut in 2010.
The 23-year-old has scored 22 times in 56 appearances while Origi’s Belgium record doesn’t look as strong, with just three goals in 23 outings.
The Belgian duo will come face-to-face after the international break when Liverpool welcome Everton to Anfield on April 1.
In other Liverpool news, the club are reportedly in a race to sign this wonderkid.
