New injury blow for Liverpool as key playmaker out for months

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that midfielder Adam Lallana will be out of action for at least two months after sustaining a thigh injury during the Reds’ Audi Cup final against Atletico Madrid in Munich last Wednesday.

The 29-year-old has been a key figure at the the Merseyside club since joining from Southampton back in 2014.

Last season the playmaker continued to showcase his talents throughout his 35 appearances across all competitions where he managed to net eight goals and provide seven assists.

Klopp spoke about his disappointment following Lallana’s thigh injury.

He said: “This is certainly not news we would have wanted.”

“Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks,” he told Liverpool FC’s official website. “So I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September.”

The Merseyside boss made it clear that he would be closely watching the England international’s progress and praised Lallana for his attitude.

“Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see,” Klopp explained. “He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see.”

While Lallana begins his rehabilitation the rest of his team mates will be preparing for their Premier League opener away at Watford which will take place next Saturday.
