Liverpool could accept Darwin Nunez offer in sensational twist – sources

Liverpool could listen to offers for Darwin Nunez this summer after the arrival of Arne Slot, amid interest from Barcelona.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that the 24-year-old could consider his options after finding limited game time towards the end of the season.

With the arrival of Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, he will assess his squad and figure out whether the Uruguayan striker fits into his plans.

However, it was also shared that Barcelona will likely be unable to afford a deal to sign Nunez given their well-publicised financial issues.

This comes after Football Insider reported that fans were unhappy with Nunez’s reaction to Klopp’s farewell speech after the 2-0 win against Wolves.

Nunez grabbed headlines earlier this month when he deleted almost all of his Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram following criticism over his form.

Now, it appears that Slot will make the call over whether his long-term future remains at Anfield after an inconsistent season in front of goal.

The forward made 54 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists, but started just one of the Reds’ last seven games.

Having arrived at Liverpool from Benfica in an £85million deal just two years ago, questions have lingered about his consistency and ability in front of goal, with the potential now for him to leave the club.

With Barcelona reportedly tracking his progress, it is unlikely they would be able to afford the fee Liverpool will demand to let Nunez go.

It could be a busy summer at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah also linked with a move away after Football Insider revealed the club would hold talks over his future after the end of the season.
