Liverpool could green light Joe Gomez exit after confirmed news - pundit

Joe Gomez could leave Liverpool this summer following the arrival of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Gomez, 25, and his future at Anfield.

According to the Mirror‘s Simon Mullock (19 June), Gomez has become frustrated with his lack of game time at Anfield.

Gomez was a bit-part player for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the 2021-22 campaign and when he did play, it was often as a right-back as opposed to a centre-half.

The Reds announced the signing of 18-year-old right-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen on Sunday.

Robinson believes the teenager’s arrival could have an impact on Gomez’s future at the club.

“It will come down to Gomez’s ambitions,” he told Football Insider.

“The Qatar World Cup is coming around quick and he will want to be in Gareth Southgate’s squad. There is no doubt about that.

“The signing of Ramsay does not help his case for staying. It could be a reason for him wanting to leave or a factor in the manager allowing him to leave.

“It would be easier to lose him now that Ramsay is there. In the second half of last season he was the player who covered for Trent [Alexander-Arnold].”

Gomez made 20 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.

He has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield.
