Liverpool defender on Instagram: This moment was the best in tough 2016
By Emma Sanders
Dejan Lovren has spoken out about his “tough year” with Liverpool in 2016 but revealed which moment was his favourite in his latest Instagram post.
The Liverpool defender has named his late goal against Borussia Dortmund as his favourite moment of 2016 after the Reds recorded a thrilling comeback in the Europa League quarter-final at Anfield.
Lovren struggled to adapt to life in Merseyside after making the switch from Southampton in 2014 but he has now become a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp.
He was criticised at the beginning of the year for his performances alongside Mamadou Sakho and his place was under threat in the summer when Ragnar Klavan and Joel Matip were brought in to play at centre-back.
However, he has bounced back and has improved this season, forming solid partnerships with Matip and Klavan despite suffering a few slight injury set-backs.

As well as stating he will “never forget this amazing night,” Lovren chose to dedicate his winning goal against Dortmund to the 96 Hillsborough victims.
It was a breakthrough year for the families of the disaster and the Croatian stated they would “never be forgotten” before wishing everyone a “Happy New Year”.
Lovren played the full 90 minutes against Sunderland on Monday afternoon and provided an assist, although he won’t be happy after the Reds surrendered a lead twice to share the points in a 2-2 draw.
