Liverpool fans all say same thing about Ryan Gravenberch’s display v Man United
Liverpool fans were left amazed by Ryan Gravenberch’s performance playing in a deeper role in the 3-0 pre-season victory v Man United.
After featuring for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, the midfielder returned to club duty for the first time since the manager’s arrival and found himself playing in a new role.
He was positioned in a pivot alongside Curtis Jones, but played as the deeper of the two, looking to dictate play and transition from the defence to the attack.
Gravenberch had often been criticised during his time playing under Jurgen Klopp due to his inconsistent displays, but a new role under the new boss has seen him start brightly.
Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Liverpool were looking to sign a new number six this summer, but Gravenberch’s ability in that role could now lead to a change of plan.
Liverpool fans taken aback by what Ryan Gravenberch did v Man United
Slot has shown a willingness to experiment with the players’ roles in his side, using them in different positions than where they played under Jurgen Klopp.
Another example was Dominic Szoboszlai, after Football Insider reported fans had been wowed by his performance in a new role against Arsenal.
It was Gravenberch’s turn to impress against Man United, as he has since been labelled “sensational” and “superb” by supporters after the win.
In other news, Liverpool are in talks over three new first-team signings.
