Liverpool fans deliver instant reactions to Alexander Isak’s Sweden comeback display
Alexander Isak’s “phenomenal” talent was made clear to Liverpool fans as he made his first appearance in four months for Sweden against Kosovo.
Liverpool finally ended last summer’s longest-running saga on 1 September with a record-breaking deadline day deal for Isak, whose £125million transfer fee made him Britain’s most expensive footballer.
The striker’s move from Newcastle to Anfield saw Liverpool’s spending in the summer window smash through both the £300m and £400m barriers, after they also signed Florian Wirtz in a £116m move.
Isak said his goodbyes to Newcastle following the culmination of a toxic transfer saga, but having been absent from their first-team squad or training sessions, Isak played no football at all at the start of the new season.

It remains to be seen when Isak makes his debut for Liverpool this season as he does his best to catch up on the intense pre-season training and playing schedule which Arne Slot‘s squad have undertaken.
Isak was still named in Sweden‘s squad for their latest World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo during this month’s international break, but was left on the bench in their 2-2 draw with the former.
Fellow striker Viktor Gyokeres failed to impress against Slovenia following his own big-money move to Arsenal over the summer, and Isak made his long-awaited return with 18 minutes to play against Kosovo.
Sweden were already 2-0 down at the time of Isak’s introduction after goals from Elvis Rexhbecaj and Vedat Muqiri, but Isak still managed to fire off four shots and contributed to Lindon Emerllahu’s red card.
‘Sweden’s best player already’ – Liverpool fans wowed by Isak
With Hugo Ekitike scoring three goals in four Liverpool appearances since his own £79million move from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, Slot is under no immediate pressure to rush Isak into his starting XI.
The Liverpool boss couldn’t be blamed for wanting to do so, however, after Isak’s “phenomenal” cameo transformed Sweden’s attack against Kosovo and gave them hope of staging a late comeback in Pristina.
Reds fans noted that Sweden’s attack “woke up” as soon as Isak was introduced, and added that given he was “Sweden’s best player by far”, there is a “big weekend coming up” as Liverpool return to Premier League action against Burnley.
