Liverpool fans left stunned by ‘sensational’ Rodrygo transfer news
Liverpool fans were all but unanimous in their reaction following a fresh update on the club’s pursuit of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo.
The Brazilian has been at the Spanish giants since 2019 but has mostly been used as a rotational option, falling behind Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe in the pecking order.
Rodrygo started just 22 La Liga matches last season and featured only once at the recent FIFA Club World Cup, where he played 92 minutes in total, further fuelling speculation over a potential summer exit.
Football Insider revealed that Arsenal are interested in signing Rodrygo, but his reported £85 million asking price could lead them to explore alternative targets.
Liverpool have also been long-term admirers of Rodrygo, and with uncertainty surrounding Luis Diaz’s future intensifying this week, the Reds appear to have identified the Brazilian as a possible replacement.
Liverpool hold talks with Real Madrid over Rodrygo
Alex Crook of talkSPORT has revealed that Liverpool have already held “preliminary talks” with Real Madrid over the signing of Rodrygo.
He added that the Brazilian winger is on Liverpool’s shortlist of potential replacements should Luis Diaz be sold this summer but the Reds are also said to be tracking Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon as another option.
Rodrygo has delivered consistently since arriving in Madrid, registering 68 goals and 51 assists in 270 appearances across all competitions and a move to Anfield would see him join a growing list of marquee names being signed by the club, including Florian Wirtz and potentially Hugo Ekitike.
While the Gunners are also interested in Rodrygo, any deal from their side could depend on the futures of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, both of whom have been linked with Arsenal exits.
Liverpool fans back Rodrygo move amid Luis Diaz uncertainty
Despite Diaz playing a key role under Arne Slot, the Colombian has just two years left on his current contract and, so far, there have been no signs of a new deal being discussed.
Some Liverpool fans have even suggested that the club should cash in on him now, after Football Insider reported that Diaz would be open to a move to Bayern Munich.
Liverpool are understood to be demanding around £70million for Diaz, which are funds that could help facilitate a move for Rodrygo.
Following the latest update, supporters have voiced strong support for the potential signing. One fan said: “Please can we get Rodrygo if Diaz leaves, that would be sensational” while another added: “Players like Rodrygo win you the league.”
