Liverpool fans rage at ‘terrible’ Alexander-Arnold after ‘disaster’ v Man City
Liverpool fans have been left raging at Trent Alexander-Arnold after his performance during their victory v Man City at the Etihad.
Arne Slot’s side extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points thanks to a 2-0 win on the road after first-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominic Szoboszlai.
The second half saw City continue to dominate possession without breaking down a solid Reds back line, while Curtis Jones had a goal ruled out following a VAR review.
Despite an impressive away win against the reigning Champions, Alexander-Arnold’s display left the travelling supporters frustrated by what they had seen.
The 26-year-old was torn about by City’s Jeremy Doku, who completed 13 of his 18 attempted dribbles, and but for a lack of end product could have changed the game for the hosts.
Liverpool’s right-back, meanwhile, was dribbled past 11 times, won just two of his 13 ground duels, lost possession 17 times and averaged a 71 per cent pass accuracy. [Sofascore]
As a result, the travelling supporters have been left angry at another disappointing defensive display from Alexander-Arnold in spite of the rest of his side’s efforts.

Trent Alexander-Arnold future still uncertain at Liverpool
This poor display comes amid plenty of focus on Alexander-Arnold’s future as he continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The right-back’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the season, with no progress made towards agreeing an extended deal as things stand.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool future won’t be decided until after the end of the season.
However, Madrid are continuing to push for him to agree a move to Spain, while Liverpool remain keen to tie him down despite their lack of progress in talks.
Fans fume at Trent Alexander-Arnold after Man City ‘disaster’
Alexander-Arnold’s defensive performances have long been called into question as it is undoubtedly the weakest part of the right-back’s game.
It was his pass which opened up the City defence and led to Salah’s opening goal against City – but that was not enough to ease the criticism from the stands.
Taking to social media following the game, supporters expressed their continued frustrations towards the defender as he was labelled “terrible” and a “disaster”.
