Philippe Coutinho was recalled to the Liverpool starting XI in their 1-1 draw against Burnley on Saturday – and fans took to Twitter to deliver mixed verdicts on his display.
Coutinho was one of seven changes made by manager Jurgen Klopp from the team that drew 2-2 against Sevilla in midweek.
The alterations did not have the desired effect even though Mohamed Salah had swiftly cancelled out Scott Arfield’s opener during the first half.
Coutinho played 79 minutes of the match before he was part of a double substitution in which he was withdrawn with Roberto Firmino and replaced by Dominic Solanke and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Coutinho had a busy day with 96 touches in all, a total surpassed only by centre-back Ragnar Klavan for the Reds.
The Brazilian had seven shots but either saw them go wide or be blocked, and had nothing on target.
Liverpool supporters were critical of his inability to make the goalkeeper work, although others could not fathom why he was substituted.
