Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Loris Karius display v Derby
By Alex Stevens
Loris Karius made his long-awaited Liverpool debut on Tuesday night – and fans took to Twitter to commend his solid display.
The summer signing from Mainz was handed his first appearance against Derby in the EFL Cup and kept a clean sheet as Jurgen Klopp’s side won 3-0 to secure a smooth passage to the last-16 of the competition.
The inclusion of the goalkeeper was the most notable of the seven changes made by Klopp from the team that won 2-1 at Chelsea on Friday night.
Karius replaced Simon Mignolet in goal after recovering from the hand injury that had sidelined him in the first six weeks of the campaign as he was given his first opportunity to prove that he can provide some of the defensive stability that has too often been missing from the team in recent seasons.
Liverpool supporters were impressed with Karius’ distribution from the back and, despite one flap from a corner, many urged Klopp to select him ahead of Mignolet for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Hull.

I like the way Karius clears the ball.
You know, up the field.
Away from danger.
Fierce handy..#LFC— Lee (@Lee_Goff) September 20, 2016
Karius is so full of confidence. Plays like an outfield player with the positions he takes up, always offering himself up for a pass. #lfc

Not getting carried away but Karius should start against Hull. So reassuring having him in goal instead of Migs. #DERLIV #LFC
