Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Mignolet error v Stoke

By Dominic Toner

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet couldn’t prevent a first-half Jon Walters header against Stoke – and the club’s supporters were highly critical of his role in the goal.

The Reds managed to bounce back to lead 2-1 at half-time in the Premier League as Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino cancelled out the opening goal.

Walters scored in the 12th minute with a powerful header at the near post, which Mignolet couldn’t save despite getting a hand to it.

The 28-year-old has been Jurgen Klopp’s number one in recent games and started the third consecutive Premier League game in goal ahead of team-mate Loris Karius.

Liverpool fans were angry with Mignolet’s attempt to save the Walters header and feel he should have done better.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Liverpool have been in fantastic form all season in the Premier League, but there have been question marks over their defence.

Klopp is yet to decide on a permanent number one goalkeeper, with Mignoelt and Karius both making high profile mistakes this season.

Mignolet is currently getting his opportunity to impress in the first team and will hope to start in the club’s next match against Manchester City.

He has racked up 159 appearances for the Merseyside club during his Liverpool career, but still has several critics among the club’s fans.

In other Liverpool news, a Sky Sports pundit claims that this  player is on par with Sergio Aguero.
