Liverpool midfielder James Milner was on the receiving end of plaudits from Reds supporters after it became apparent that the 32-year-old had broken the record number of assists in a single Champions League season.
The former Leeds United ace went above Brazilian superstar Neymar and Wayne Rooney after the Merseysiders 5-2 victory against AS Roma in the European competition on Tuesday night.
It was a record that was made in the 2016/17 season when the 26-year-old totalled eight in one campaign but Milner now has nine.
And fans were loving that the player branded “Mr Reliable” had bettered the flamboyant Paris Saint-Germain attacker and took to Twitter to show it.
Anfield was electric against the Italian giants as the Reds asked all kinds of questions of their opponents, who for large parts of the game looked completely out of their depths.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the final ten minutes of the semi-final showdown with a 5-0 lead after a Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino brace, as well as a Sadio Mane effort, gave the Reds a clear advantage.
But the Reds went to sleep after their Egyptian goalmachine was substituted.
This gave the Serie A club the impetus as first Edin Dzeko found the back of the net for the visitors and then Diego Perotti gave them something to hold onto into the second-leg.
Nevertheless, Reds fans were happy with Milner and here is a round-up of some of the best Twitter reactions from Liverpool supporters about Milner’s record-equalling feat:
Milly is so underrated 👌🏻
