Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Clyne injury ahead of Man United clash

By Harvey Byrne

Liverpool full-back Nathaniel Clyne has been left out of his side’s Sunday afternoon clash against Manchester United due to a rib injury – and Reds fans on Twitter are worried.

The 25-year-old full-back played the whole 90 minutes in his side’s 1-0 defeat against Southampton in midweek.

However, he was not named in the 18-man matchday squad to face rivals United at Old Trafford.

Young starlet Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named in the right-back position instead, while Joel Matip is also missing from his side’s back four.

Liverpool fans on social media are now worried that Clyne as well as Matip will be missing from their side for the pivotal encounter.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Clyne has been an ever-present in the Liverpool team after completing a £12.5million move from Southampton in the summer of 2015.

He has played in 24 encounters in all competitions this season and is one of the solid parts of a error-prone defence.

It is a bad game for Clyne to miss as the Reds are now preparing to face a United side, which contains the attacking threat of Anthony Martial, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Fans will be hoping for a solid performance from their makeshift back four as they look to keep the pressure on league leaders Chelsea.
