'His record speaks for itself' - Liverpool fans urge club to sign 20-goal PL striker

By Harvey Byrne

Diego Costa has told that Chelsea no longer want him at Stamford Bridge – and Liverpool fans on Twitter have urged the club to go out and sign him.

The 28-year-old striker played a vital role as the Blues lifted the Premier League title in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge with 20 goals from 35 league appearances.

However, BBC Sport have since reported the 15-time capped Spain international as to saying he is not wanted at the Premier League champions.

“I’m a Chelsea player, but they do not want me there,” Costa said.

“Antonio Conte has told me by message that I do not follow at Chelsea and that’s it. Conte said he did not count on me for next season.”

This has brought a number of fans from Premier League clubs to suggest their club should go out and sign him after his starring displays in the English top-flight.

Liverpool fans on social media are no different and many feel that their club are missing a forward in the mould of Costa if they are to win their fist Premier League title.

A number related his controversial attitude to that of former star Luis Suarez, while others simply stated their wants for the Reds to make a move for Costa.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Costa made the switch to England in the summer of 2014 after joining Chelsea from Atletico Madrid in a £32million move.

He is still contracted to the club until 2019, but it is now likely that he will be on the move this summer.

In other Liverpool news, Don Hutchison has named the centre-back the Reds should now be looking to bring in.
