Liverpool in talks with Klopp favourite – report

Liverpool are in advanced talks with defender Joe Gomez, according to a report.
The Echo claim that the Reds are negotiating a new deal for the 19-year-old, who is set to sign a new contract which keeps him at the club under 2022.
The report details that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been the main driving force behind the deal and has been impressed with the youngster.
It is understood a number of Championship clubs were keen to sign Gomez on loan, but Klopp blocked those moves and thinks he has a huge future at Anfield
Gomez moved to the Merseyside club from Charlton for £3.5million and made an impressive start for the Premier League’s elite.
The England Under-21 international made seven first-team appearances and made a smooth transition to the top-flight.
However, he then missed the rest of the season with a serious knee and Achilles injury which halted his development.
Gomez is now back into first-team contention and has played twice in the club’s FA Cup run so far.
The defender is likely to get another opportunity to impress in the competition on Saturday when Liverpool host Wolves.

Gomez is certainly one of the best upcoming talents at Anfield and deserves a long-term contract. He has had to deal with a horrible injury which kept him out of action for a lengthy spell, but is now prepared to kick on and fight for a place in the first-team. He is a versatile defender and the Englishman has huge potential. Gomez made a great impression when he first signed for the club and just needs to be patient to get more opportunities. Liverpool certainly have their weaknesses in defence and Gomez could be a good solution in the future, in either a centre-back or full-back position.
