Liverpool jet out on scouting mission for highly-rated defender, competition from CL rivals - report
By Derek Smithson
Liverpool have sent scouts to watch teenage defender Sebastian Caceres, according to a report.
The Sun claim that the Reds and Chelsea have deployed scouts to monitor the highly-rated 18-year-old that plays for Montevideo-based club Liverpool FC in Uruguay.
It is understood that the two Premier League sides also face competition from Champions League rivals Barcelona.
The report details that the centre-back is regarded as a big talent since breaking into the first team at domestic level and that he is being tipped to make the prestigious move from South America to one of the European leagues.
Manchester City have also been monitoring the Uruguay Under-18 captain, who has begun to make an impression at international level too.

The report explains that Premier League sides may have an advantage in the race to sign Caceres as his representative Nick Maytum is English-based.
Caceres has managed to force his way into the Liverpool FC team, who are a top-flight club in Uruguay.
The ball-playing defender is set to be monitored by Jurgen Klopp’s side and the manager is recognised for developing young talents, with Ben Woodburn the next star threatening to breakthrough at Anfield.
Football Insider verdict:
One area that Liverpool fans may want to strengthen is in defence, where preferred centre-back combination Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren are still vulnerable. The Merseyside club are showing good intention by scouting talented youngster Caceres, who must be doing something right if he is catching the eye of Spanish giants Barcelona too. The 18-year-old is certainly one for the future and if Klopp sees another potential then he should bring him to the Premier League. However, he is not going to make an immediate impact and Liverpool also need to consider a senior centre-back in January, with long-term target Virgil van Dijk still the best possible fit.
