Liverpool are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, according to a report.

French outlet RMC Sport claim that the Reds are keen on signing the 21-year-old from the French giants.

It is understood that Merseyside rivals Everton and Italian club Inter Milan are also interested in the centre-back.

The report details that PSG remain firm in their stance of Kimpembe and do not plan to sell the talented youngster for any price.

The Frenchman became an important first teamer for PSG last season, who have established themselves as one of Europe’s elite clubs.

PSG have been in the Champions League for the past six consecutive seasons and were dumped out of the last 16 in dramatic fashion to Barcelona in the last campaign.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to build his Liverpool squad following their return to Europe’s elite club competition next year.

They have already added attacker Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke to their ranks, but have taken an interest to defender Kimpembe.

The centre-back made 28 senior appearances for PSG last season and has proven himself to be a very accomplished defender already.

Football Insider verdict:

Kimpembe is certainly a very talented youngster and has already proven himself in France’s top flight. It is no surprise that PSG are not intending to lose their prized asset and he could be a natural successor to Thiago Silva at centre-back. Liverpool need to address their own defence and decide the future of Mamadou Sakho, who impressed on loan at Crystal Palace last year. Klopp may need to bring in a top quality defender if Sakho does leave Anfield and Kimpembe would have been a good fit. However, Liverpool’s return to the Champions League should still help them attract top players to help bolster their options.

In other Liverpool transfer news, they have reached an agreement with a Championship club for Sheyi Ojo.
