‘Liverpool make January transfer decision on Kerkez, Richard Hughes at work’

Liverpool are looking to sign a left-back and Richard Hughes is on the case but it is “unlikely to be this month”, according to The Times.

According to the outlet’s website on 3 January, reinforcements at left-back “will be required” for the Merseyside club, but not in January.

Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez has been constantly linked to a move to the Reds and has recently switched to the same agent as Federico Chiesa.

The report suggests that Liverpool sporting director Hughes “will be working” on the potential deal to sign left-back with Alphonso Davies another target.

Kerkez has been a pivotal player for Andoni Iraola’s side this season as they push for a European position.

The Hungarian full-back has featured in every league game, recording one goal and two assists.

At just 21 years old, his performances have attracted interest from Merseyside, highlighting his potential to excel in the full-back position at the highest level.

However, his importance to Bournemouth’s season cannot be understated. Football Insider revealed that the Cherries are unwilling to sell Kerkez in January, deeming him crucial to their campaign.

According to The Times report, Liverpool’s interest stems from the need to plan for life beyond Andrew Robertson, who is now 31. Kostas Tsimikas has also been described as “not a long-term replacement,” which could pave the way for Kerkez to move to Anfield.

Linking up with fellow Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai would likely appeal to him. The two share a close connection, as seen when Kerkez recently commented on one of Szoboszlai’s social media post, fueling speculation about a potential move.

Despite these links, it appears Liverpool are holding off on pursuing a left-back until the summer. For now, the club’s focus remains on their league title challenge, leaving any moves for reinforcements until after the current campaign.

In other news, Liverpool fans are urging the club to sign this Nottingham Forest star.
