Liverpool make U-turn after Ekitike deal agreed, Newcastle are worried
Liverpool are now unlikely to bring in Alexander Isak this summer after agreeing a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike, sources have told Football Insider.
The Frankfurt striker is set to make the switch to Anfield after the Bundesliga side accepted a £69million bid, which could rise up to £78m with add-ons.
Last week, Isak was the subject of an enquiry from Liverpool, but sources say that after bringing in Ekitike the Reds will struggle to add the Sweden international to their ranks as well.
Newcastle have remained strong on their stance that their star striker is not for sale this summer, despite constant rumours linking him with a St James’ Park exit.

Newcastle are worried after Isak ‘unsettled’
After hearing of Liverpool’s interest in him, Isak has reportedly become “unsettled” at Newcastle.
Eddie Howe left the 25-year-old out of the Magpies squad for the pre-season game against Celtic, adding fuel to the rumours that he is unhappy in the North East.
Newcastle are now worried that Liverpool will be back to make another move for Isak, whether that is in this summer’s window or further down the line.
The Magpies are doing everything they can to tie the striker down to a contract extension, despite the fact he still has three years left on his current deal.

Real Madrid to submit Konate offer
Meanwhile, Real Madrid could make an attempt to sign Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate for as little as £25million during the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Xabi Alonso’s side are long-term admirers of the centre-back, who has just one year remaining on his contract, and are prepared to test the Reds’ resolve.
However, Football Insider revealed Liverpool will demand £40million to sell Konate this summer as they are reluctant to see him leave either this summer or next.
Instead, Madrid are believed to be lining up a deal to bring the France international to the Bernabeu on a free transfer in 2026 as they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
