Liverpool news: Campbell backs Jurgen Klopp as controversy analysed - 'it will anger some'

Kevin Campbell has supported Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his assessment of the fans who booed the national anthem at the FA Cup final.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Everton captain said the reasoning for the boos “is a lot deeper rooted” than many realise.

As quoted by the BBC (16 May), Klopp insisted that the fans would not have done it “without a reason.”

However, Boris Johnson condemned those that booed at Wembley and described the scenes as “a great shame.”

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the events that unfolded over the weekend, Campbell said: “This is a lot deeper rooted.

“It is not about being against the Royal Family. This is political.

“I’m of the thinking that fans will do what they feel is right. They would not have done it without reason. You cannot stop people doing what they want to do.

“The boos will make some irate. It will anger some and others will agree.

“The fact of the matter is, there is a body of fans who are not happy. We have seen it before. Internally, this country is divided on certain points in certain cities.

“I understand why they booed. People have their own mind.”
