Liverpool news: Campbell verdict on radical rule change as Jurgen Klopp fumes

Kevin Campbell has questioned why Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is “moaning” about scheduling after the FA Cup final.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker insisted the 54-year-old should have raised the issue last week as opposed to on Monday.

A much-changed Liverpool side beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday, just 72 hours after lifting the FA Cup.

Speaking prior to the win, as quoted by The Telegraph (16 May), Klopp complained about the Premier League’s scheduling and suggested the game should have been played on Thursday.

The Reds boss took issue with the fact that his side had to make the trip to St. Mary’s just days after playing extra time and penalties against Chelsea.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the FA should consider scrapping extra time from next season, Campbell said: “Extra time is a slog.

“It is always a slog to try and get that winner. It is a final. This is what finals are like.

“If the authorities decide to scrap extra time so be it.

“But there can be no complaints about it now. Everyone knew the rules beforehand.

“If Klopp had a problem with playing on Saturday and then Tuesday why did he not talk about it last Friday? It makes no sense moaning about it now because you can’t do anything. You can’t change anything.”
