Liverpool news: Pundit issues 'incredible' Luis Diaz verdict after Wenger claim pre-Man City

Luis Diaz has shown there is life at Liverpool post-Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, according to Paul Robinson.

The ex-Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the “incredible” Diaz, 25, was “the best player on the pitch” at Benfica on Tuesday.

The £49million signing starred in a 3-1 win at the Estadio da Luz in the Champions League.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS (5 April), ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave “10 out of 10” praise to Liverpool’s scouts for spotting the Colombian.

Diaz is in contention to start when Jurgen Klopp’s side take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the forward’s form, Robinson said: “He is getting better and better.

“He was an incredible signing when he came but now he’s on another level.

“They fought hard against Tottenham to get him and paid a big price but he was clearly worthy it.

“There has always been talk of where Liverpool would go when Salah, Firmino and Mane leave. At one point, nobody could break into that front three. But [Diogo] Jota and Diaz have done that.

“It shows that the recruitment policy at Liverpool is bang on. It looks like they are going to have a strong squad for a long time.

“Diaz was outstanding against Benfica. I thought he was the best player on the pitch.”
