Liverpool news: Pundit shares verdict on potential dressing room 'upset' after confirmed news

Liverpool are taking no risks with the signing of Darwin Nunez.

That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ latest signing.

On 15 June, Liverpool announced the signing of Nunez, 22, from Benfica in a deal which could cost a club-record £85million.

The deal could amount to a club-record £85million if the Uruguay international is a success for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite the large fee, McAvennie is certain Liverpool are taking no risks due to Klopp’s extensive research.

“Klopp is a guy who knows what he wants,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He will have this guy read inside out. You look at the dressing room at Liverpool and you see characters.

“I think Jurgen Klopp is old school like that, he finds out the character of the player before he joins.

“All he talked about when Diaz came in was how lively he was in the dressing room.

“It’s all well and good having talented players but you can’t upset the dressing room.

“I don’t think Klopp would take that risk, especially when you are paying that kind of money for someone.

“He’s a damn good player and he will be playing with a much higher standard of player now.”

Nunez joined Benfica from Almeria in the summer of 2020 amid interest from Brighton.

He is likely to serve as a replacement for Sadio Mane, who is expected to leave the club this summer following six years with the Anfield club.
