Liverpool are said to be the preferred destination for Monaco attacker Thomas Lemar, according to a report.
The Independent claim that the French winger wants a move to the Merseyside outfit, despite interest from Arsenal, after turning down a new contract offer from the Ligue 1 side to remain on the continent.
Reds manager, Jurgen Klopp was linked heavily with the 22-year-old throughout the January transfer window as he looked for a replacement for Barcelona-bound Philippe Coutinho.
However, the French outfit refused to sanction the player’s departure and a move did not materialise.
It is now looking likely that Klopp will make his move for Lemar in the summer, particularly after the winger’s refusal to sign a new deal.
Football Insider verdict:
Klopp seems determined to bring the French international to Anfield and it would seem that that is what Lemar wants too. However, since Coutinho’s departure to La Liga, it’s not as though the Reds have struggled to create opportunities or find the back of the net so it’s tricky to see what the 22-year-old could add. With just three goals to his name this season in 23 games, it is not as though the winger has been prolific either. Injuries have also blighted his campaign and he has been in and out of the side through shoulder and hamstring problems – the £78million that was reportedly offered by Liverpool in 2017 looks crazy money.
