Kieran Maguire: Liverpool have landed £9m windfall as another £14m ‘within reach’

Liverpool have pocketed £9.2million after securing a place in the Champions League last-16 – and another £14.2m could be on the way.

So says finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Reds’ 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid on 3 November.

That victory ensured that Jurgen Klopp‘s side will play in the first knockout round of Europe’s premier club competition for a fifth successive year.

They have won all four of their matches in Group B so far, scoring 13 goals and conceding five.

Maguire revealed that win bonuses mean Liverpool have already picked up £9.2m from Uefa.

The spreadsheet wiz also explained that gate receipts (£4m), broadcast fees (£5m) and prize money (£5.2m) could boost that by a further £14.2m.

“There is still something to play for with the remaining games,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“It’s £2.3m, per victory in the group stages. The manager has come through and they’ve won four matches, so that’s £9.2m there.

There is also, of course, another £5.2m within reach for the last two games.

On top of that, if there is a draw, both teams get £770,000. The remaining £770,000 goes into a pot which is redistributed among all the teams that win.

“From Liverpool’s point of view first of all, they would get another match at Anfield. That’s the best part of £4m in gate receipts.

“Plus, from a broadcast point of view, another £4m to £5m if they win that and get into the quarter-finals.”
