Football Insider rates the Liverpool players for their performances in their 1-0 win against West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday.
Simon Mignolet 7 – Had very little to do between the sticks, but it is clear that his distribution is in desperate need of improvement. He did however pull off a brilliant save to prevent Matt Phillips scoring with 10 minutes to go.
Nathaniel Clyne 5 – Solid at the back, but when going forward he is often too keen to play it safe rather than take risks and try and set-up a goal for his team.
Joel Matip 7 – Looked so calm when on the ball and made sure that West Brom had very little sight at goal. Another good performance from the Cameroonian.
Dejan Lovren 4 – Usually the Croatian’s defensive play is at fault, but against a West Brom side who offered very little going forward it was his passing which was a major concern on Sunday. Broke up a number of Liverpool’s play by handing back possession and even put the ball out of play on numerous occasions when unchallenged.
James Milner 6 – Caused problems with his set-pieces and his free-kick led to the crucial first goal just before half time. However, he missed a sitter in the second half to put his side two up.
Georginio Wijnaldum 6 – A mixed performance from the Dutch summer signing on Sunday. At times he showed he showed his ability, while he also looked well below the required level at other times.
Lucas Leiva 8 – Did a good job in the defensive unit and played a huge part in the opening goal by heading it onto Firmino from the free-kick.
Emre Can 7 – Looked dominant against a strong Tony Pulis set-up. Broke up a number of attacks in the centre of the park and helped his side move the ball up the pitch.
Roberto Firmino 7 – Had a quiet first half before finding himself in the right place to put home an excellent flick on from Lucas to put his side a goal up just before half time.
Divock Origi 4 – Struggled up top on Sunday. Didn’t cause enough problems to the West Brom back line and when he did take a shot it very rarely caused Ben Foster any problems in goal. His hold up play was a positive, but more was needed from the Belgian.
Philippe Coutinho 4 – Off form on Sunday. Almost tried to do too much himself and his shots very rarely hit the target. Sometimes needs to take the ball on his left, rather than taking it on his right all the time.
Daniel Sturridge (For Origi 82 minutes) – 6
Alberto Moreno (For Coutinho 90 minutes) – 4
