Liverpool plot raids to sign two Sporting Lisbon stars, one dubbed ‘next Lionel Messi’ – sources
Liverpool are plotting raids for Sporting Lisbon stars Marcus Edwards and Goncalo Inacio in the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the pair could join Ruben Amorim in moving to Anfield.
The Sporting boss has agreed a deal in principle with the Reds to become their new manager, sources told Football Insider on Thursday (11 April).
And O’Rourke believes he could bring some Sporting stars with him given the club’s strong showing this season and the fact that he knows the players and could trust them at Anfield.
Sporting stars could make Liverpool move in summer transfer window
O’Rourke believes former Tottenham youngster Edwards, 25, could be on Liverpool’s radar after he left North London for Portugal to reignite his career.
He explained that the winger was once dubbed the “next Lionel Messi” while he was breaking through at Spurs, where he made just one senior appearance.
And O’Rourke added that the Reds are in the market for a new centre-back this summer, with Sporting star Inacio, 22, certainly an option.
He did, however, stress that a lot of the decision making in the window will be made by director of football Richard Edwards and the Liverpool recruitment team.

They will have targets in place regardless of who arrives in the dugout to replace Jurgen Klopp, with the new manager needing to work closely with the Anfield recruitment team to find the most appropriate players for the club.
